One duckling is gone 😔
It’s not clear what happened. We noticed he was missing when putting the momma ducks inside for the evening, and found him by himself on the grazing strip. He was alive but not moving, with a full crop and barely managing to squeak.
Once in the coop, he wouldn’t drink or move. Momma duck was ignoring him and didn’t seem upset that we were handling him (unlike she does when we try grabbing the others). We found him dead later and gave him a nighttime burial in the east swale.
This is part of the process, I suppose, but still sad. It was the first domestic animal to die here…
