A duck egg in a child’s hand may seem like a small thing.

But it can be the beginning of so many questions.

At Alo Lira: Garden Explorers, we are inspired by the Montessori way of moving from the concrete to the abstract. First comes the real experience: observing the ducks, finding the eggs, feeling their weight, shape, and texture, comparing sizes, noticing differences.

Then, little by little, more abstract paths can open.

Mathematics appears when we measure, compare, record, estimate volume, and think about the shape of an egg and how to describe it.

Biology appears when we ask why eggs have this shape, what advantages it brings, how a duckling grows inside an egg, what other animals lay eggs, and what place ducks have in the ecosystem.

Critical thinking appears in old and wonderful questions: after all, which came first, the duck or the egg?

Cooking and nutrition appear when we talk about eggs as food. Ethics and culture appear when we discuss why some people eat eggs and others don’t, and how different families make different choices.

This is what we want to cultivate: real experiences that open doors into many areas of knowledge, without separating learning from life.

In Garden Explorers, one question leads to another. And often, it all begins with something as simple as an egg found in the garden.

During August, we will offer selected 3-hour morning sessions, with access to nature, Montessori materials, carefully prepared experiences, and much more.
