Discovering Portugal Through Science: Our Scientific Expeditions Begin
A few weeks ago, I discovered something that completely changed how we explore Portugal with the children: the Circuitos Ciência Viva Card.
I’d been looking for different experiences for the kids, who lately have been fascinated with everything science and nature. That’s when I remembered this card I’d heard about before, but had never seriously explored.

So what are these Circuits exactly?
There are 21 Centres spread across the country, with 19 different circuits and 57 routes. Over 200 places to explore! Their motto is “Let yourself be guided by curiosity” – and that’s exactly what we did.
With one card, we have access to interactive museums, science centres and experiences that transform any family outing into a little adventure of discovery.
Why did we decide to share this?
Here at Alo Land, we’re always talking about the importance of connections – with nature, with community, with knowledge. These museums aren’t just places to entertain the kids (though they do that very well!). They’re spaces where all of us can:
- Ask questions and try new things
- See science in a practical way, not just theoretical
- Get to know Portugal in a different way
- Spend quality time as a family whilst learning

What comes next
Over the coming months, we’ll share our discoveries – from museums that surprised us to little adventures along the way. If you also have the card, or if you’re thinking of getting one, we’d love to hear about your experiences!
For families in our area: how about joining up for some visits? You can chat with us at our family meetups or contact us directly.
Next stop: We’re still deciding! Suggestions?
Have you visited any Ciência Viva museums? Share your experiences in the comments or come to our monthly family meetups.
